Review: The Rise of the Guardians

Source
Holy crap.  That is really what I thought when we walked out of this movie.  Holy crap...that was freaking amazing.

First, lets discuss that in this movie, Santa is portrayed as a Russian with huge arm tattoos, (WHAAAT?) and the Easter Bunny is an Australian badass (AWESOME!).  That there, for me, made the movie.  I loved that even though Santa and the Easter Bunny were portrayed as tough guys, they had this super sweet soft side also.  Ok, now that I have gotten that out of my system, lets move on.

The story in this movie was awesome.  It was the rise of the good guys, Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Sandman, the Tooth Fairy and Jack Frost, against the evil Boogie Monster.  The Boogie Monster's name was Pitch, and I won't lie, for most of the movie I thought Santa was calling him something else that is not appropriate for a kid's movie, maybe it was the Russian accent.

There were parts in this movie that seriously touched me, it was honest and raw and just plain amazing.  I teared up in a couple of spots, which doesn't happen often.  Lucy got anxious in a few of the fight scenes, but she never got scared.  When we left, she wouldn't stop talking about it.

I am seriously blown away by how well this movie came together.  I was expecting just another boring kid's movie, but this one kept me locked in.  The fact that I wouldn't mind seeing it in the theater again is proof that it had to have been good because movies are FREAKING EXPENSIVE these days, even when you go early in the day.

We did not see it in 3-D, we don't see any movies in 3-D because Lucy can't see in 3-D, so I can't tell you if it's more awesome that way or not, but I can tell you that the story line makes it amazing and that you need to see it.

I really hope this one comes out on DVD before Christmas (I am sure it won't though sadly) because I can't wait to own a copy!

Have you seen the Guardians yet?  What did you think?
