Months ago, while I was searching for PVC pipe crafts, I came across this fine motor skills game made by Just Dawnelle. I figured Dexter would just love it, so I decided to make it myself. The best part was, I had all the supplies in the garage, so it didn't cost me a thing except time and frustration.
I started off with this piece of wood. It was a fine piece of wood and would have done exactly what I needed it to had I drilled my holes properly. However, because I tend to make things difficult, this project took me twice as long as it should have. I pre-drilled my holes but I used the wrong size drill bit. This meant that when I drilled the screws in, my board split. It wasn't a terrible split, I figured once I got done I would put some glue on it and put it in the vice to let it dry.
And then Dexter got ahold of it. He had it for all of 5 minutes when the whole board split in two. Back to the drawing boards I went. I had to go find another board from the garage, I had to ask Matt to help me get the right drill bit, I had to re-drill my holes. It was exhausting.
But in the long run, I was really happy with how it came out. I wrapped everything in washi tape like Dawnelle did and because everything should have washi on it.
You will also notice that my PVC pipe rings aren't uniform in size. I did that on purpose. I wanted them to be different. I will be cutting a second set of each of them in different sizes also. I think this will be a great way for us to start working on our colors and another cute little play toy for him to have in his room.
