Day 19: The PVC Pipe Slow Sign

In our neighborhood we have five kids under 6.  Fortunately, it's a cul-de-sac and so we get limited traffic, but because the UPS guy and the FedEx guy are here so often, we need to remind everyone to drive slowly.

My neighbors bought not one but TWO slow guys for our block.  And both have been stolen.  Who steals a slow man?  It's disgusting.

After the second incident, my neighbor asked me if I wouldn't make something.  And how could I say no?

What I used here was some 3/4 inch PVC pipe.  I spray painted it yellow, bright green and florescent orange.  I think eventually I will add some reflective tape to it too so that no one could miss it.

The sign is just a piece of scrap wood that I had in my garage.  I used my Silhouette to cut out the letters and used mod podge to glue them on.  I topped that with a coat of clear varnish to help with the water proofing.  To hang it I just drilled a couple of holes and used zip ties.  Easy peasy.

Lets hope this helps with our traffic problem and if anyone decides to steal this, at least it's easy to see where it came from, and it's easy to replace if we never see it again.  Total cost for this project was under $8.
