Recently, I joined up in a Silhouette challenge, you know, because I HAVE NOTHING ELSE GOING ON! Yea you heard me, on top of THREE 31 day challenges, weekly menu planning, school, ballet, karate, soccer, starting up a girl scout troop, running the book fair (in which all the parents but like 3 backed out) AND rearranging my entire house, I joined a Silhouette Challenge group.
I might have issues.
That said I had a lot of fun doing this challenge. I tested myself and learned a lot about my Silhouette, which is the main purpose of the challenge, to do something you haven't done before!
The project I have decided to show you, is the Halloween banner I made for the Halloween party I am co-planning. You will have to excuse the pictures here, I would have normally taken them outside, but by the time I finished tying them all together, it was dark. I also didn't have a great place to hang it in my house because it is a large banner.
I used the Lunacy More font from dafont.com and I created the triangle form to mirror a pattern that I bought from the Silhouette store so that it would all be pretty uniform.
I will say, I pulled a rookie move when I made this banner though. I had enlisted the help of the Silhouette group I am a part of to get the letters and the triangle to weld together properly, a HUGE special thanks to Dee from Wine to Whine who inevitably solved my problem. I made sure that I had all the letters made. I made sure they were all the right size. And then I hit save. Or so I thought.
And wouldn't you know, when I restarted my computer to do an update, my file did not save. Yes. It DID NOT SAVE. The work, the sweat and the almost tears that went into this banner and it didn't save. Of course, to make matters worse, I had run out of paper while I had TWO letters left to cut so I had to re-do the whole file and then attempt to get the size correct.
It was a ROOKIE move I tell you.
However, in the end, I got it done. It will look great hung up for the party next weekend, and it is a decoration that I will save for future Halloweens.
And because I worked so hard on this banner and worked so hard to get the letters done, it would be a waste if I did not share it with you. Please note this file is to be used for personal use only.

Rookie moves aside, way to persevere - - the finished product is fantastic, Randi. I love banners of all kinds - - and this one is so bright, bold, and colorful. Very very eye-catching. Well worth the effort. And I figure that whenever I have re-do projects from the start, I'm just cementing my learning. At least, that's my glass-half-full approach.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to join us this month, even with your busy schedule. Hope you can catch some time to breathe!
