Seattle Skyline Silhouette

Silhouette Challenge - November

My Choice - Vinyl

Remember last month when I did the Silhouette Challenge and made that pretty awesome (if I do say so myself) Halloween banner?  Well I decided to participate again this month.  I love giving myself a challenge, but if it wasn't for this group I joined, I would push off these personal challenges until I was old and gray (which, well, I already am).

I've been trying to figure out how I am going to redesign my blog header and I've wanted it to be something that I designed myself.  Of course I wanted to stick with the Seattle theme.  I tried all kinds of ideas.  I looked for free source Seattle skyline gifs.  I tried sketching, I tried tracing, I tried a lot of different things.  In the end, I decided to find a picture of the skyline that I loved and imported it to my Silhouette studio and figured out how to use the trace function.

Once I had the outline, I loaded up my vinyl.

And out came this:

I was pleasantly surprised with how easy this was.  And I was even more happy with how well it turned out

My original plan was to water paint around the silhouette, then take it off, lay down the negative and water color the skyline also, but when I finished with the water colored sky, I knew it was done.  I loved the way it looked with the straight black vinyl that I didn't want to take it off.  I mean, check it out:

Now I need to figure out how to make this my new header, because, I am in love!

  1. How neat! I love that it's your title background too!

  2. Wow! The water color came out so well in your painting. I agree that keeping the black vinyl was the right choice, it looks great!

    1. Thanks once again for having me! I've been having a great time with it!!

  6. Really nice, looks like lots of work. Seattle is one of my favorite cities in the US, and that silhouette is just super.

    1. You know, it was less work than I thought it would be. The hardest part was just stopping when it came to painting.

  7. What a great result. You Blog looks awesome with it's brand new header.

  8. Wonderful job on this. The background looks fabulous.

  9. Wow, this is fantastic, I'm so impressed!! I wish I was craftier, but alas, I'm lazy and would usually rather pay someone else to do things for me. ;-)

    1. Thank you! I have set up right now in my craft room until I finish my wall collage :)

  11. Finally having a chance to go through all the Silhouette Challenge project inspiration-- I'm like a [big] kid on Christmas but earlier!!

The Seattle skyline has always captured my eye! Love your take on adding a bit of a blue glow with watercolors. Simply fabulous!
