Family Emergency Box

I am not the most organized mom ever.  As a matter of fact, I am probably the least organized.  I forget dates (even though I write things down), I usually run out of diapers at the worst time and I never have snacks or water with me.  Aside from the little "mommy" packs I keep with me and in my car, I am still pretty disorganized.

About a year or so ago, however, I put together this little "Family Emergency Box" for my car.  It doesn't help me stay organized, but it does help me in pinches when I do forget things like, diapers, wipes, or bandaids.

It first started out in an old plastic sheet package, you know, those plastic zipper bags that your sheets come in?  Well I used that because it has two pockets in it, you know, where they put the little info sheets in them?  And I made this list of things that I wanted in the bag, things that I thought I would need just in case.

Well, when I went on my big road trip last year, I added a travel potty to my bag, but by then, there wasn't enough room, so I started packing everything into this little tote.

Now it holds wipes, diapers/pull-ups, hand sanitizer, lotion, extra t-shirts, hair ties, bandaids, travel potty with liners, a trash bag, and safety pins.  I also like to keep little tylenol packets and in the summer I keep sunblock.

What is also nice about this tote, is that it fits perfectly in my stow and go storage in my minivan. Additionally, I keep two blankets in my car as well as two picnic blankets.  On the other side of this area, an additional booster seat fits just in case we need to help out any of our friends by picking up kids from school, or taking kids home from Girl Scouts.

It's not much, but it is just that little bit of extra organization that I need to help me feel just a bit more together.  What would/do you put in your car organization boxes?

  2. I did this same, exact thing, when the boys were babies! Only problem was, I kept forgetting to "update"- one time, we had a diaper emergency, and the ones in my go-box were about 5 sizes too small! LOL I learned the hard way to check periodically, after that. :)

    1. For a while I used to keep cloth diapers in my car because the sizing was adjustable. Now, Dex is in the largest size so it doesn't matter :)
